How it works
Working with your insurance carrier
Graystone Contracting handles the full insurance claim on water, fire, and storm damage jobs across Plano, Frisco, and the rest of DFW. We document the damage, meet your adjuster on site, and bill the carrier directly. Your out of pocket is the deductible plus any upgrades you choose. Call (469) 974-5254 day or night.
What does the claim process look like?
- STEP 01
Stop the damage and call us
If water is still flowing, shut off the main. If smoke is still in the air, get out and call 911 first. Then call us at (469) 974-5254. We answer 24/7 and start documenting from the first phone call.
- STEP 02
Open the claim with your carrier
You file the claim. We give you the loss summary and photos to attach so the carrier has a real picture of what happened. Most carriers open claims by phone or in their app in under ten minutes.
- STEP 03
On-site assessment and emergency mitigation
Same day extraction, board-ups, tarps, drying equipment. Mitigation starts before the adjuster shows up because waiting makes the loss bigger. Every action is photographed and logged for the file.
- STEP 04
Adjuster meeting on the property
We meet your adjuster on site and walk the damage with them. We bring the moisture maps, photos, and scope so nothing important gets missed. This is where most claims get won or lost.
- STEP 05
Approved scope and rebuild
Once the carrier approves the scope, we rebuild what we removed. Drywall, flooring, paint, trim, roof, gutters, whatever is in scope. Change orders only with your written approval.
- STEP 06
Final invoice billed to the carrier
We bill the insurance company directly for the approved work. You sign off, the carrier pays, and we close the file. You pay your deductible and any items you chose to add outside the claim.
No assignment of benefits
You stay the policyholder. We do not require an AOB to start work. You sign off on every change order and the final invoice.
Photo first documentation
Every loss is photographed before we touch it. Mitigation logs and moisture readings go to your carrier the same day.
Honest scope
If you do not need a full replacement, we will tell you. Repair vs replace is your call, with the data in front of you.
Common questions
Do you work with all insurance carriers?
Yes. State Farm, Allstate, USAA, Farmers, Travelers, Liberty Mutual, Progressive, Texas Farm Bureau, and others. We are not a 'preferred vendor' for any single carrier, which means we work for you, not for them.
Will you wait for the adjuster before starting work?
For permanent rebuild, yes. For mitigation (water extraction, drying, board-ups, tarps), no. Carriers expect mitigation to start immediately and document the cost separately. We send mitigation logs to your carrier the same day.
What if my claim is denied?
We will review the denial with you and rewrite the scope or appeal with your carrier where appropriate. If the denial is final, we can quote the work as a private project and offer financing through the IKO ROOFPRO program for roofing scope.
Do I have to use the contractor my insurance suggests?
No. Texas law lets you choose any licensed contractor. Carrier 'preferred' lists are convenient for the carrier, not necessarily for you.
Who pays the deductible?
You pay it directly to us when work begins. We cannot legally absorb or rebate your deductible in Texas. Beware of any contractor who offers to.
What does it cost me out of pocket?
Your deductible plus any upgrades or items you choose to add outside the claim scope. We will document those line items on the work authorization so there are no surprises.
Got water where it shouldn't be?
Call now. We answer 24/7, the estimate is free, and we'll tell you honestly whether you need a full restoration or just a fan and a phone call to your insurer.
